To ensure a weather-tight seal and maintain your product warranty, the following structural requirements must be met during installation.

  1. Structural Opening & Upstand
  • Opening Size: Your internal structural opening must be exactly 50mm larger than the product size ordered (e.g., a 1000mm x 2000mm rooflight requires a 1050mm x 2050mm opening).
  • Upstand Dimensions: Construct a timber upstand around the opening that is 50mm wide and at least 150mm high.
  • Internal Support: A 50mm x 25mm support batten must be fixed to the internal edge of the upstand, positioned 40mm down from the top.
  1. Pitch & Weatherproofing
  • Fall Gradient: We recommend a minimum 5-degree gradient to ensure adequate water run-off and prevent pooling on the glass.
  • Silicone Requirements: You must use a low-modulus, high-movement silicone (such as DOWSIL 791) on the top surface of the upstand.
  • Warranty Note: Using the incorrect silicone type can lead to unit failure and will invalidate your warranty.
  • Testing: Always perform a water test by pouring water at the highest point of the installed unit to ensure there is no pooling before sealing the glass to the upstand.

Our Triple Glazed Flat Rooflight dimensions, please read as these are crucial for forming your upstand.

  • 6mm clear toughened glass which is self-cleaning BS EN 12150
  • 16mm warm edge spacer bar filled with Argon Gas
  • 6mm toughened clear soft coat Low E glass (over 2500mm in length, below is 4mm) BS EN 12150

  • 6mm toughened clear soft coat Low E glass (over 2500mm in length, below is 4mm) BS EN 12150

When installing this triple glazed flat rooflight we strongly recommend using a high quality glazing silicone that is high in movement and low modulus such as DOW791. This can be purchased from most DIY stores. Example DIY store

Our  Triple Glazed Flat Rooflight boasts a system U Value (how effective a material is as an insulator) of 0.6W/m2K. This means you won’t have any unnecessary heat loss from our units, unlike most of our competitors who have a much higher U Value of around 1.2W/m. On average our units are 40% more efficient than required by Building Regulations.

Due to the low U value, our glass also helps with your SAP calculations. Meaning more glass and light!

We use a ceramic border (the black band around the edge). This hides the internal seals and protects them from UV, but more importantly, it covers the area where the unit is bonded to the upstand.

When it comes to choosing the  triple glazed flat rooflight for your property, safety is an important factor. With this in mind, all our units are made from toughened soft coat (Low E) glass with an overall thickness of 46mm.

Best Practice Handling our  triple glazed flat rooflight

When handling the skylight there are a few things to remember.

  • Once removed from the packaging lay the glass flat on a soft surface
  • Do not lay the glass on hot surfaces
  • Do not rest the glass on its edges

For warranty and safety compliance we recommend all windows over 1000mm x 2000mm should have 6 persons to lift the window into place, one on each corner and one each side in the middle. You must do this to reduce stress to the middle section of the unit as the seal can bend if it’s not fully supported. If the rooflight/skylight is not fully supported this may cause gas to escape in the future.
